ᴹ√DRING root. “beat, strike”
A Noldorin-only root in The Etymologies of the 1930s serving as the basis of N. Glamdring “Foe-hammer”, the name of Gandalf’s sword (Ety/DRING). This name continued to have this translate in Tolkien’s later writing (PE17/84), indicating the root likely also survived.
