Ilk. [f]

Ilk. [f]

The voiceless labial spirant mainly developed from the primitive aspirate [pʰ] (PE19/18), but medially after vowels it was voiced to [v] (PE19/23), and thus appears more often initially than medially. Note that orthographically, a final “f” represents [v] in Ilkorin as it does in Sindarin. Another way that [f] could develop was from the spirantalization of [p] after liquids and voiceless stops, and thus [f] could appear non-finally in clusters such as [rf] or [lf].
