ᴺS. !nî adv. and vb. “once, at one time; was” (Category: One)
A neologism coined by Paul Strack in 2018 specifically for Eldamo, inspired by Q. néya “once, at one time”. I would also used nî/nîr as the past form “was/were” of the verb na- “to be” for statements about the past: Boromir nî orchal “Borormir was tall”, i rych nîr lim “the horses were swift”. Compare tho- “will be”. See the entry on na- for further discussion.

G. gî(laith) adv. “once, in past” (Category: Before (temporal))
A word in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s appearing as G. {gî >>} gî(laith) “once, in past” (GL/38). Its second element is G. laith “time” (GL/52), and its first might be based on the early root ᴱ√DYĒ “behind, back (before of time)” (QL/105). Tolkien also said that it “often, in form gî, [was] used loosely as a mere aid to a past tense”.
