A rejected Doriathrin noun for “babe” developed from the root ᴹ√LAP (EtyAC/LAP). Its Quenya cognate ᴹQ. lapse suggests a primitive form of *✶lapsē, but elsewhere a medial [ps] became [ss] in Ilkorin, as with tuss < ᴹ✶tupsē.
